Meet Eli
Eli is a public defender, policy advocate and community leader who has spent his career fighting for justice and standing up for people. For over a decade, he has represented individuals in court who can’t afford to pay an attorney, and as Policy Director for The Bronx Defenders, Eli has successfully led statewide campaigns to make New York more fair and compassionate.
The Upper West Side has always stood as a bulwark of progressive values and conscience. It is a community that shows up, speaks up, and leads with integrity and compassion. With the threats facing our city and state, we deserve a representative who will continue to honor that tradition. Eli is uniquely prepared for what this moment requires.
Our Platform
Eli Northrup is running to ensure the Upper West Side remains vibrant and livable. He’ll support small businesses, prioritize affordability, and safeguard New York from threats to our democracy. He will bring heart and resolve to the fights in front of us—and will be ready to go on day one.
Community Safety & Justice
Eli knows that true community safety comes from investing in stability—housing, mental health care and opportunity—not mass incarceration. He’ll protect recent justice reforms and expand data-driven approaches that address root causes of crime and make communities safer for everyone.
Affordable Housing & Vibrant Neighborhoods
Eli will push for tenant protections, the creation of truly affordable housing, and creative solutions to take down scaffolding. He’ll champion small businesses and protect the character, livability, and affordability of our neighborhoods.
Climate & Community Resilience
Inspired by his father’s legacy as a conservationist, Eli will advance clean energy, green jobs, and sustainable urban design—protecting parks, air, and water while strengthening our city’s climate resilience.

Assembly District 69 is located on the west side of Manhattan and covers several neighborhoods, including Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley, Bloomingdale and portions of the Upper West Side and West Harlem.
