HEALTHCARE

Healthcare

Fighting for access to universal, high-quality healthcare is a core pillar of my campaign. Public hospitals are too often the only source of care for low-income New Yorkers, undocumented New Yorkers, and New Yorkers living in underserved communities. I will be a champion for long-term sustainable funding for safety net hospitals and the staff and residents who help support our most vulnerable neighbors.

  • Expanding Access to Health Coverage - I support the New York Health Act, which will create a single-payer healthcare system that prioritizes patients, not for-profit interests. As we work to pass and implement a single payer healthcare system, I also commit to pushing for the Essential Coverage for All bill, which will help advance access to health coverage for New Yorkers shut out of public coverage due to immigration status. I will also fight back against moves to cut Medicaid funding, and advocate for the Home Care Savings & Reinvestment Act to grow our investments in access to home care statewide.

  • Dramatically Expanding Mental Health Services - I will advocate for increased state funding to build and expand access to supportive housing for individuals living with serious mental illness and to ACT and FACT teams. I will also push to fully fund school-based mental health clinics.

  • Supporting Healthcare Workers - We must match the expansion of healthcare and mental health services with a parallel investment in our healthcare workers. That is why I will fight for safe staffing ratios, funding for residency programs with robust benefits and workforce protections, loan forgiveness programs, and cost of living adjustments.
